This patented window system successfully unites the warmth and elegance of a true dimensional hard wood window with the energy efficiencies and superior strength offered only by an all welded and fully weather-sealed unit. This truly maintenance free wood window has all of the advantages an installer and homeowner could possibly want.
The rich, warm look of an all-wood window is achieved through the use of wood, which is applied directly to the sash interior. And, the wood interior members are milled and assembled to look just like a traditional wood double hung window. Extension jambs for 4-9/16” and 6-9/16” walls allow for ease of installation. A tight weather seal at the meeting rail is achieved through the use of integral interlock. Unlike cumbersome all-wood windows, the window by Atria and VEKA is very easy to clean due to flush mount tilt latches.

Superior strength and durability are accomplished through the use of an all-welded frame and sash. The use of a sloped sill allows for adequate water drainage, while a traditional clad window look is achieved and the possibility of trapping moisture avoided.
This window unit installs as easily as a traditional wood unit, there are no dry wall returns, collapsible nail fin, or special tooling to contend with. With ¾” insulated glass, multi-chambered profiles and integral weatherstripping, this system is a highly efficient window system.
Many in the industry have attempted a wood/vinyl window. Most products are comprised of half wood and half vinyl, making the window more costly and more apt to rot, warp, blister and experience peeling problems. In effect, the materials are forced to stay together by having a great deal of each.
What makes the wood-vinyl window by VEKA and Atria so successful? The answer is simple. Vinyl and wood have different expansion rates; therefore they grow and shrink at different rates when subjected to temperature change. For example, take a 90-degree day, the sun beats down on the outside of a window, meanwhile the homeowner is cranking the AC inside to keep the home cool. The molecules in the wood on the inside are hardly vibrating, which is actually why cold objects shrink in size… meanwhile, the vinyl on the outside is getting a total workout and vibrating, which is why things expand.
There are now two materials bonded together either by glue or mechanical attachments that are fighting each other to shrink and expand. If the material is bonded with glue, the product will typically separate over time.
If it is a mechanical bond that is stronger than wood and vinyl, then the wood shrinking will distort the vinyl and the product will bow. Patio sliding doors are the worst offenders. They bow to the point of being unable to open.
Glass is another huge factor in the equation. Glass does not react well under stress. At best it might merely damage the IG seal, therefore destroying the unit and resulting in replacement. At worst, the glass will crack, and if it is safety glass such as is used in doors, the homeowner will have to deal with a huge mess of tiny glass fragments all over their carpet.
The unique and true value of the system, is that it contains a glazing bead that allows the wood and vinyl to float on each other without glue or any mechanical connection. They can expand and contract at different rates without creating any kind of stress. This successfully eliminates the need for adhesives or mechanical fasteners that can fail over time. This float method, unlike “capping or cladding” of a wood window with vinyl or aluminum, eliminates moisture build-up that can rot and decay the wood sash beneath.
